The Earlham College philosophy of “discovering knowledge together” has generated a need for underutilized spaces to be transformed into places that inspire interaction and innovation. PERSONAL INVOLVEMENT: Programming, Space Planning, Interior Architecture, Interior Design, Finishes, Design Intent Package for FF&E and signage

SIZE:12,000 SF
COST:
$1.7 Million

Earlham College’s May-Crossen Student Commons provides a student-oriented series of spaces for recreation, respite, and human interaction that was once a void on campus. This project took a windowless walk-out basement and repurposed the interior environment to become a magnet for students. Transformation began by removing physical barriers such as walls and floors to create a series of individual spaces with varied volumes all linked together with purposeful site lines.

METZ Dining Hall

RICHMOND, INDIANA
Completed in 2017
Photography by Al Ensley

PERSONAL INVOLVEMENT: Programming, Space Planning, Interior Architecture, Interior Design, Finishes

SIZE: 10,000 SF
COST: $2.5 Million

The space is at the core of the university’s student-life functions, consistently hosting events and gatherings. The old dining hall consisted of several small ques which was inefficient for the way Earlham serves all students at one time. The new large, open layout allows the influx of students to get through the lines quickly and promotes healthy meal choices by food placement.

WTIU Radio & TV

BLOOMINGTON, INDIANA
Completed in 2018
Photography by Daniel Showalter Photography

PERSONAL INVOLVEMENT: Programming, Space Planning, Interior Architecture, Interior Design, Finishes, FF&E

SIZE:11,000 SF

The renovation of IU Bloomington's Radio-TV Lab, allowed for student collaboration and office space to be upgraded for the first time in more than thirty years. The design integrated visual display and graphic signage, increased the size of a central collaboration room and created an open office environment. To increase security, a new reception desk is now visible from the main entrance of the lab. The aesthetic of the space was designed primarily as a monochromatic space to allow for the colors of the various stations logos to pop.
